Dutch economics Professor Lex Hoogduin, who teaches at the University of Groningen, has served as an advisor to the first President of the European Central Bank (ECB), Wim Duisenberg, as a member of the executive board of the Dutch Central Bank, and as chairman of LCH.Clearnet, one of the world’s leading clearing houses, based in London.

In this first episode of the Brussels Report Podcast, BrusselsReport.eu editor Pieter Cleppe discusses with this experienced insider in the world of public finance to what extent eurozone governments now depend on the ECB and how it has been possible to come that far. Hoogduin also gives his thoughts on whether inflation will soon become a real danger and for how long interest rates may remain as low as today.
